About Casey Murphey
Casey Murphey saw the world before deciding that the Charleston area was the place she wanted to spend the rest of her life.
Before starting her real estate career in the Lowcountry 10 years ago, Casey lived in Manhattan and traveled extensively all over the world as a merchandising consultant in the women's fashion industry. She says she and her son, Blake, now 20 and a student at Amherst College in Massachusetts, moved to Charleston for the "kinder, gentler lifestyle."
"I felt it was a better place to raise an adolescent," Casey says. "I like the lifestyle and the history here, and I love the architecture. Charleston has great restaurants, many cultural opportunities in the visual arts and performing arts, and it's close to the beaches."
Casey was well-acquainted with the Lowcountry long before she chose to move to here. As a child growing up in Rockville, Maryland, her family visited South Carolina every summer. Her familiarity with the area played a role in her decision to make a career of the real estate industry.
"Charleston is a historic city, and I love learning about it as well as selling its attributes," she comments.
Casey, an agent with Daniel Ravenel Real Estate Company, does most of her business on the Charleston peninsula, though she also sells homes in Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island, in West Ashley, on James Island and in the Old Village and other parts of Mount Pleasant. She says one of the most interesting aspects of the real estate business is negotiating "the deal."
"Sometimes it's like a chess game," she points out. "You have to anticipate what the other side is going to do. You really have to keep the negotiations moving forward. Peoples' emotions get all wrapped in the sale, and "it's the realtor's job to keep everything on track."
Casey is confident that the Charleston area real estate market will continue to appreciate because, regardless of what the economy looks like in other parts of the country, people will move to the Lowcountry for the same reasons that brought her here: the weather, the history, the architecture, great restaurants, cultural offerings and the beaches.
